Aftermarket Bilstein Struts/Shocks for XI Models!

This information has been posted over in the XI forum, but I thought I'd post it here to get some more visibility.

This site is linked from the bilstein website:

Click "English" --> "BMW" --> "3 (E90)" --> "335xi"
Two versions are listed:

Quote:
BILSTEIN - B6 SPORT (http://www.bilstein.nl/bilstein/b6_sports)
The shock absorber for those drivers who prefer a sports suspension but are not particularly interested in lowering the body. Also available in special design complete with reservoir for off-road vehicles.

For some people it's important to show what they have, for others it's sufficient to know that they have it. The theme of the discussion here is the sports suspension. The BILSTEIN B6 Sports shock absorber is the ideal solution for drivers revelling in the understatement . The wolf in sheep's clothing snarls, when necessary, but otherwise goes reliably about its work in daily traffic with no lowering of the body whatsoever.

Optimum road holding, enhanced tracking stabilisation and excellent damping force: the BILSTEIN B6 Sports is not only first choice as far as sports tuning is concerned but also in the sphere of safety.
and

Quote:
BILSTEIN - B8 SPRINT (http://www.bilstein.nl/bilstein/b8_sprint)
The shortened, high-performance shock absorber for lowered sports cars.

Lower doesn't automatically mean better. Not the appearance of the car determines its quality but the optimal tuning of suspension, springs and shock absorbers. With this in mind BILSTEIN has specially developed the B8 Sprint for cars with lowered bodies.

The shortened version represents the ideal pendant to suspension optimisation for nearly all sets of springs. Fast track changing at high speed, gobbling up uneven road surfaces, ironing out cross washboard surfaces ...The BILSTEIN B8 Sprint not only let's you look good but, above all, it gives you an excellent ride.
I called the US East Bilstein headquarters.

First, I asked which type is the OEM equipment. I was told that neither because the aftermarket equipment listed is not the OEM equipment. She could not confirm what was actually installed as the OEM strut/shock.

Second, I provided the part numbers for the aftermarket struts/shocks listed. I was told that these are not available in the United States.

Third, I asked if these could be special order and delivered to the United States. I was told that these cannot be ordered now, but will be available for purchase in the US in 3 months!

GOOD NEWS XI owners, aftermarket shocks/struts are on their way !!!!

I don't think so, but maybe. When I asked the last question, I was on hold for 2-3 minutes. She mentioned she needed to double check with her supervisors, so it sounds like this information is pretty legit!

We all just need to keep calling every so often checking on status of US availability... or some vendors could do us a favor and import the shocks/struts and sell them on the board

I personally have a set of KW V3, but might end up selling them and purchasing a pair of B8 Sprints and some H&R Sport Springs. KW V3 rock, but my car is a daily driver and I don't track. It's a hassle for me to make sure the KW V3 are configured correctly. Plus, Iowa really doesn't have any good shops to do that type of work....

i'm sure when the shocks are available in the US, vendors will be picking them up because of the high demand for them. it's now just a matter of waiting .

thanks again for the info update!

kw v3 are overkill for me as well, too many settings/options. I just want plug/play and dont want to drop 2k for a good system which I will never fully take advantage of

But I agree, we all need to keep calling/harassing Bilstein regarding these shocks in hopes they will pressure management to bring them over!!

So if you want to drop the height of the car get the sprint? If you want stock height, but better handling get the sport? This correct?

I want to know how the H&R springs are going to match up to both versions of these shocks.

wouldn't H&R Springs + Bilstein struts/shocks be pretty much the same price as getting H&R Coilovers? it seems springs go for about $250 and shocks go for about $650 so $900. i think H&R Coilovers were selling for like $1000 or $1050 from a vendor on here

it has to do with the maintenance issue. getting them installed correctly, corner balanced, height adjusted at each corner, and settling issues...

coilovers are not plug and play, struts and springs are

I'm no suspension expert, but I think the life on both setups are about the same.
