Consequences of unplugging the fan

Hear me out before you hit the reply button and flame me.
I broke the outer ring of the fan when doing my IC swap. Now it is unbalanced when it runs and it rubs on the outside of the housing. Not bad but I have a new one on order ($730. Not happy.)
If I monitor my coolant temps, don't drive in stop and go traffic and don't drive when it's stupid hot out, can I just unplug the fan for the next week until the new one arrives? I don't care about the CEL.
From my understanding the fan kicks on when you aren't getting enough airflow or the ambient air is too hot. Thanks.

unless your tune is changed, the fan will come on at 226 degrees coolant temp

dont run the ac and watch coolant temps, id leave it installed, removing it completely will put you in a nasty limp mode

best case would be park it and drive something else until its fixed

Yeah I would suggest not driving it at all. You could very easily get caught in a situation where you cant keep the car moving. All it takes is one bad situation or one bad choice or a combination and your engine is done.

Also.....why would you pay that much for a new fan? There are replacements for a fraction of the cost. Even the BMW branded one is $640 from FCP

Can you link it? All I could find was the FCP one for 335is, 335d etc for $700 ish. You can't buy only the blade. I could try to repair but I'm sure it'll rattle apart anyways.

Just get the IS fan, it's more wattage and more powerful, you may have to change something with the electrical but a lot of guys are doing.

Otherwise hit up the link above. You can probably barter a used fan for less than half the cost.

I have an iS, hence the added cost. Replacing with OEM. The warranty will be nice.

Anyone know if I can take the 600W fan blade and put it on the higher wattage fam assembly? I can't imagine they'd be different.

Pretty sure the fans are balanced, you can't just swap the blades i dont think. Could be wrong though

Don't drive your car without a fan....no matter how much you baby it, it's going to overheat. Find a rental car, or a car to borrow for a few days until the new fan comes in.

You should be ok if you dont get caught in traffic. You can use the heater inside to help cool the engine. Open all vents and put fan speed highest.
And monitor coolant temps via kombi. If you stop for long just turn car off.

There's also the option of pulling over if temps are high, turn car off and run water pump with heater fan running full ball.
