Thumbs down LED Angel Eyes from Ebay - WOW!

So, I bought these from ebay seller mtecpower: (See Link)

After getting them - with the installation instructions for the wrong car - I installed them. Heres what happened:

09-27-08
Dear mtecpower,
I installed these three days ago. Everything was perfect until today. I was driving and I got an error code and now my passenger side led is out. I wanted to touch base with you... I'll be out of town this weekend, but I'll be able to open it up and check it out on Monday.
Thanks,
Michael

Hi,
Sorry to hear that. You can send the defective bulb back to us, and we will replace a new bulb for you.
Thank you.

09-30-08
Dear mtecpower,
I took everything apart and removed the both bulbs last night. The one that was out is severely melted. The wires show heat damage too. Needless to say, I am not very happy. My original bmw halo bulbs are back on the car now. I will send both bulbs back to you and I would very much appreciate a refund.

Hi,
Are you installed them correctly? The bulbs consume 1watt which is way less than the stock halogen bulbs. How would it possible to melt the wires? Can you take a picture of melted wires?
Thank you.

10-1-08
Dear mtecpower,
Yes, I double and triple checked everything. I even used rubber gloves when handling the led units. I am not inexperienced with this sort of stuff. If I had to guess, the resistor (load equalizer) was bad.
I know that in order for the led's not to throw an error code there has to be something in there drawing at least 10 watts of power - the same amount as the stock halogen bulb. I didn't take any pictures of the wires. They weren't damaged enough to need replacing but the plastic cover on one of the female connectors turned brown and slightly deformed.

10-1-08
(Response)
Hi,
It is impossible for the unit to draw 10W. If you can make such a small LED bulb to be 10w, then you will make tons of money because you will be the first one in the world to do it.
Are the wires melted? Because what you said this time is different than what you did last time. It is perfectly normal for the connectors to turn brown. If you want to return the bulbs, you can just say so. You don't need to make up something. If you just want to return the bulbs based on your personal reason, that's fine. However, the shipping is non-refundable.
Thank you.

10-1-08
Steve (mtecpower),
Maybe you are misreading? I say heat damage in my first email and in my second describe it as turning brown and discoloring. The bad led unit melted.
ANY type of misshaping or discoloration is certainly NOT normal! I do not appreciate your attitude and accusations!
I am very well aware that led's draw very little power - like you stated 1 watt. I was explaining how the unit housing the led (not the leds at the end) must contain a resistor that draws up to 10 watts. There's a heat sink on your product for a reason. It appears you are unfamiliar what I am talking about. This is is really pointless anyways. I'll send you the lights back and you can refund me.

You gotta double check with the forums before you buy from an unknown buyer on ebay dude!. .I see this waaay too often. But atleast it's a warning for those about to find themselves in similar situations. Leave negative feedback if he doesn't make it right.

Leave negative feedback and say they melt in an E92 so now one will buy them and don't ever buy crap off ebay again - most of that chinese junk is worth exactly nothing!

Sorry to hear that, looks like he's offering to refund though minus shipping though which is normal. Might be a bad product, but seller seems to be doing the right thing. If the emails above are exact copies, then based on his grammar, I would guess he's not a native English speaker either, so something might be lost in translation.

Also I don't believe the angel eyes are checked by the car for the amount of power. (could be wrong on this, but thought that this and interior lights weren't checked)

Why would someone buy $45 bulbs from ebay and put them on a 50k car and risk warranty and significant electrical damage is beyond me. If you must cheese out with ghetto lights, atleast get it from a reputable dealer who will stand by his work.

Oh wait--reputable dealers/auto shop won't carry this ghetto gear...

The lights actually weren't bad. There were about what I expected compared to the more expensive options for the halos. They looked good at nite, but weren't really visible durring the day. Im just going to keep the stock halogens in. Its a pain in the ass to change these things. I'm done taking all that crap apart.

Without knowing the full details, it's hard to say what actually went wrong, but hey, at least he was able to get a refund right? I'm guessing some sort of electrical short somewhere, but that's a moot point.

The bulbs, however, looks like junk to me. Based on the photos it looks like you have a shot circuit in the defective bulb causing a sudden current draw which generated too much heat and melted the housing. You should've gotten PIAA LED bulbs instead. They cost $140 bucks but they work much better.
However the PIAA bulbs are completely washed out in daylight. The RD brand is not much better.
