Warranty Voiding...
I was wondering how some of you guys drop ur cars, add rims and stuff without voiding the warranty? I thought the dealers would blow their lids and void the warranty if you made any changes to the car.

Under the Magnuson-Moss Act, a dealer must prove, not just vocalize, that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before it can deny warranty coverage. If the dealer cannot prove such a claim — or it offers a questionable explanation — it is your legal right to demand compliance with the warranty. The Federal Trade Commission administers the Magnuson-Moss Act and monitors compliance with warranty law.
That being said, if you choose to modify your car, and suddenly the fancy new electronic control boxes that you added to your car make it run rough, not start when cold, or buck like a bronco, the dealer can and will charge a diagnostic fee to find out what is wrong with your car. If it turns out that your modifications are the cause of the problem, the dealer has every right not only to charge you for the diagnosis and repair, but to also void the portion of the warranty that has been compromised by the use of those aftermarket parts. Likewise, a dealer may refuse to service your car if it is adorned with aftermarket parts to the extent that its technicians cannot reasonably be expected to diagnose what is wrong with your car. Give him a break, you were a FNG once too, and there's much nicer, less condescending ways to suggest using the search function to new members. I'm not saying, I'm just saying..... Thanks for the valuable info john802. Welcome to e90post kyazh.

I took all the modifications that I could afford direct from the factory. I have not modified my car in any way, nor do I intend on doing so. It is fantastic as it is!!!

Let me put this in plain terms.
If you modify the car, and the car breaks, stops performing properly, coughs, hiccups, or whatever, as a result, you have just invalidated a good part of your warranty coverage and it cannot be reinstated. If you modify the car and nothing bad happens, you are fine. If it looks like it could be a grey area, perhaps you shouldn´t do the mod.

Don't worry about cdheaven, he needs to get flex his carniverous side somehow - apparently by attacking new posters.

Yeah but posting your reply twice is just a cheap way of boosting your post number so you don't look like FNG. I should know, how do you think I got to 150 posts? Only joking, and kyazh welcome to you!

haha. it has been discussed a bunch. actually, the last time it was discussed was when someone told me that no one cared what was in my avatar, no one asked me, no one wanted to know, and i was only telling people what was in it, for attention. thats a good thread, check it out.

Thanks for the info guys, and for the warm welcome. When I get my car I am going to be doing some slight modes to it and was just worried on how the dealer would react. Ive heard some wack stories about the dealer voiding the warranty because the rims placed on the car were bigger than what it could handle on some infiniti's, but those could be rumors. The only mods I intend on doing are Rims, a nice Drop, some simple visiual addons, and maybe a subwoofer... nothing hardcore... once again thanks for the helpl...
