Voice Commands

Does anyone really use the voice command feature? I think this feature is useless and never works for me. Plus you can get to where you want to go much quicker without it!!

I always use the one for "lighting" so I can turn my DLRs on if it's overcast and off when it's sunny. It's a lot easier to hit the button and say "lighting" than it is to go through the menu for some functions. There's a few others that I use too.

Garage List
If my display is set for the CD and I want to go to the map I have three choices. One, hold the knob to the right for two seconds and release; two, push the menu button next to the knob and then knob to the right and navigate to the map; three, push the voice button and say, "Map". For me the third option works every time. Your results may vary.

If I want to change CDs, it's much quicker to use the voice. To make a phone call, for me is quicker with a combination mainly because I don't use the phone as often as other features so I don't remember the commands.

The voice commands for most of the Climate settings are pretty useless and seem to be something that would be a preference setting that you'd do only once or twice anyway.

I use the AM and FM commands to switch the radio. Plus I use some of the Nav commands.

For me it's hit and miss. Lot more misses than hits. Often gets very frustrating.

I use voice dialing every day and the car recognizes my blackberry's address book contacts 95% of the time. Other than that, FM menu, preset 1/2/3 etc

It's a shame they removed some of the earlier useful voice commands, in my '04 X5 I can say "gas stations at current location" or "parking lot at destination" etc.

Very useful for dialing and switching b/t radio sources. Haven't tried some of the other commands yet but so far I love the functionality!

I pride myself on being a very good communicator (just ask my girlfriends...all of them . And, my pronunciation and vocabulary are top notch...but I cant, for the life of me, get the damn voice commands to work well. My TomTom works flawlessly. You would think that a $50k car would work better than a $400 nav!

i use mine all the time to dial a number from my phone book and to get to the buried menu options quickly. it usually understands me pretty well it's just a matter of leaving a slightly longer than usual pause between words and the sunroof is better closed too b/c i'm fairly certain the mic is mounted close to the dome lights.
