It will help, but for most who want a decent sounding system it will still sound pretty poor.
The highs will likely be too bright as the base has a factory EQ applied to boost the treble given the lack of tweeters... among other issues. Best bet is to change all the speakers (they are also pretty poor) and add an amplifier.

Yeah I get what you're saying.
I've spotted this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vibe-OPTI....c100005.m1851 Which could be go-er, or I was considering the Alpine upgrade and some L7 or similar subs. There's so much info out there it's to chew through it all |

Hi, did you ever go for the Optisound? Just looking at it for my E93 but hard to find any reviews!

Just wanted to post here for posterity - adding tweeters to a "base" sound car is *definitely* worth it! I have the Match MS42C component speaker set on my car and it sounds pretty good. I would however highly recommend to get a set with adjustable crossovers to tone down the built-in EQ such as the MB Quart, Gladen, etc. components.
This is a good stop-gap while you're saving up for the rest of the sound system improvements. I definitely won't be leaving this as-is (I don't want ctuna telling me off - joke), but it's a big improvement over stock for the time being. |

Depending on which HU you use to get AA/CP, it'll likely have a graphic EQ built in. Caution on the android HU units though, their EQs aren't great, and those units clip/distort early, so don't use any boost.
And rather than consider an external EQ, with DSPs available for so cheap now (Dayton $150 USD), and offer SO MUCH more functionality, including a better EQ as well, I can't see any real scenario why an external EQ is the way to go (except for nostalgic reasons perhaps).
