What is this wire on rearview mirror

I am in the process of installing a rearview mirror for 2006 BMW 330i. It came with the car handing with duct tape holding it.

I've removed all of that stuff and have a wire coming down that I don't understand. It looks like something is broken but I'm not sure. I've attached some images for reference and commenting.

What is this?

No pic. Google E90 Fog (condensation) sensor and see if that matches your wire.

There are two wires that come down from the headliner there. One is for the automatic rain sensor and the other is for the mirror itself.
