Oil
Does anyone think that I should run 0w40 in my n54 even if it is parked in a heated shop at night? It would be parked outside in up to -40 C weather during the day. I am currently on 5w40.

Definitely sounds like a good idea to go to 0w40 for those temps. Make sure to warm the engine sufficiently before pushing it, too.

BMW recommends 5w30/0w30 for the N54 engine. I would probably go for 0w30 if you have a colder climate, and 5w30 if you live in a hot climate year around. I'm no expert in oil but from what I have read 5w30/0w30 is the way to with the n54 engine. In your climate I would definitely go for 0W.

I'm from Canada and I run 5w40 liqui moly year round. My car is in a garage at night but sits outside all day. Never had an issue starting or anything.

I'd run 0w-30 during the winter. Use genuine bmw oil
