I was just thinking the other day of how outdated the police cruisers are. They are still built on the same platform that the have been for well over a decade. Are they just going to build the same car forever?? just curious.

They are really durable and quick(no flamed replies necessary lol), its hard to make a good looking car that is really durable, if they discontinue it, ford will take a hit considering how many there are, i have been seeing more dodge chargers and chevy impalas as cap cars though but for now the crown vic is still kicking |

I can't remember the last time I saw a CV police car. They're almost all driving Tahoes, Chargers, and Impalas where I'm at.

They're pretty dead here in Houston now. Slowly being moved out and changed to Chargers and Tahoes. I've seen another model, but can't remember what it was. The TX Highway Patrol use to have Camaro's. I hope to see some new Camaro's transformed as well.

The Crown Vic will be discontinued in the next couple of years. As for chassis age, it was designed in 1979. It's called the Panther platform and is actually quite rugged. I still have one, albeit in an unusable condition.
Nice thing about the CV is that it took almost all of the same aftermarket parts as the Mustang GT. There were issues with the intake being on the opposite side from each other, but the fact that Mustang aftermarket parts were cheap meant you could buy what you needed for the GT and, if necessary, modify it for use on the CV. |
