Lifter tick continues when hot
Hey everyone,
I've got really bad lifter tick on my 2007 e91 n52, and it hasnt worried me too much, but now I'm trying to sell it its turning people away. Its quite loud and doesn't quieten down when hot. It is present most of the time with occasional random times when its quieter. I always drive it "spirited" and its always driven long journeys at 100kmph (30kms+). I've always done oil and filter changes regularly since owning. I don't really want to replace lifters and/or head since I'm trying to sell it. My next step is to do a full oil flush and change for some heavier weight oil. Has this happened to anyone else and do they have any good solutions? Cheers, Matt p.s. I know lifter tick is a very common issue in the early n52 engine, and I have read a lot about it. I am specifically asking about still ticking when well hot, and any successfull fixes, however temporary. |

try liquimoly lifter tick additive, some people use it and say it works. At this point you might as well try everything

What weight oil are you using? I bought my 325i with 220K miles on it and it was ticking. I have been using 5w-40 ever since I bought it, and after the first oil change and running the car hard a few times with some spirited revving it stopped ticking and hasn't come back at all.
My 330i has much less mileage however it too was ticking on cold start the first few days I owned it. I haven't changed the oil yet (have the records from the previous oil change, 5w-30, not due yet for another month) but after driving the car every day and making a few spirited runs the ticking hasn't returned. |

Hate to say it, but oil isn’t going to resolve that tick. If your 100% then your either gonna have to fix it, to get all your askin, or sell it cheap. The last thing you need, is to pass it on, and possibly deal with legal issues.

I went from 0w-40 on the last change to 5w-30 and the tick went from nonexistent to hearing relatively often. I won’t be using 5w-30 going forward. |
