Transmission & Transfer Case Removal for Xdrive Manual Clutch Replacement

So... there isn't any information available to remove the transfer case TOGETHER with the manual transmission on an xdrive e90 chassis.

I want to provide those SPECIFIC instructions.

There are some important steps that need to be taken that differs from the instructions that are available in the FAQ section as well as the Pelican Parts DIY.

I will post pictures later as I just completed the removal process. I want to start the first post in the thread with this note.

You must, MUST, remove the transfer case from the manual transmission, PRIOR to removal of the transmission.

The transmission and transfer case cannot be removed from the chassis as one whole assembly. They must be separated.

What a pain in the a$s....

More to follow.

So the transfer case is approximately 9" in Depth

It makes it pretty impossible to disconnect the shifter linkage, in order to remove the transmission.

There isn't any room to pull the shifter linkage pins out, so you will need to PUSH to pins out.

I made 2x metal pry bars to pop the shifter linkage pins out.

In this picture is that top shaft where the shifter select rod would mount up, with the transmission output shaft below it?

Love the MS paint btw. Most valuable commodity on forums.

Your description of the top shaft, selector rod & output shaft is accurate.

When I put the parts back into the car, i'll take additional photos showing the clearance issues.
