Best looking M3 generation?

BMWBlog ranks the M3 by generation.

https://www.bmwblog.com/2020/10/13/g...ank-among-m3s/

Do you agree with them? If not, which do you think is best? And what order would you rank them all?

E46 is definitively best looking M3, even today.
New M3 are faster, but driving feel in E46 is something to be desired in todays ///M cars.

I'd say every generation has its charm... except for G80. That thing is just ugly.

Same.

I'm going to voice an unpopular opinion here. The new G's are starting to look attractive to me. Something is wrong in my life, but the more I look at them, the more I like them. I am tired of seeing that hideous green though. Show me one in nardo, matte gray or a blacked out version.

I’ve yet to see one without a front plate on it, so I know the grill is bigger than it looks. I think BMW even knows and is putting up the visual divider that is a license plate to break up the space.

My wife was asking what the new M3 was to look like. Told her to look it up. Her eyes went big and “OH MY GOD” came out. In her best Jake from State Farm commercial voice, “Well that looks hideous.”

Yeah man, I'm struggling with it. It's like tasting something that everyone else hates, but some how you are surprised at how much you like it. It makes me question my own opinions.....and I've always been fond of my own opinions.

Can we get a post with them all as I don't know the BMW codes. The first one or two were very good looking, as was the generation that just passed. Issue with the last gen is the car is now a full blown muscle car, closer to a Mustang than a sports sedan.

its a subjective topic, but since I'm young I never think the E36 look good, imo G80 = E36, aka I dont like them both

E46 is timeless, non car people can easily think a clan E46 could be new.

Exactly. I think a lot of people think it's growing on them or they actually like it but in reality, they are drawn to it simply because it's different and over the top. I haven't found one person that actually thinks these monstrosities are beautiful or elegant. Nobody has commented on the beautiful and flowing and congruent lines because they simply don't exist. All the major BMW design cues that have won them praise for decades are gone. The front and the rear end don't even match each other and they're from completely different design styles.

Bottom line, it is so different and so obnoxious and that's the appeal. But wait till you put a US license plate on the front or no license plate that all and you will see this gaping bucktooth nightmare that's asymmetrical. Chris Harris described it the best:

"The new M3 and M4 appearing to have borrowed facial features from a yawning rabbit"

Nice chart - but the cars are shown as if they are the same size and they definitely are not. The F80 is about the same size as the E39 M5 and significantly bigger than the E36/46, which are bigger than the E30.

My ranking based on looks is E46, F80, E36, E30, E92, Gugly.

Based on driving it is probably E46, E30, E36, E92, F80. The F80 is remarkable and very capable, but also detatched from the road. The E30 is purest, but E46 gives a lot more for little sacrifice. IMO, of course.

A '05 or '06 M3 Competition Package or even better would be a CSL.

Imo anyone voting E9x is really voting for the E92 as they look quite sharp except the rear bumper
They all look good except G80
But i like the E36 best personally
