Steptronic Shifter help!!!
Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on an issue I've been having, my manual mode on my steptronic shifter doesn't work, so after research I assumed it would be 1 or 2 of the small cables that commonly break under there - countless threads on this. Anyway I repaired these however I still have no sport or manual mode, in regular D mode the paddles work as expected however I push the shifter over to the left and it registers it's in manual mode but I can't shift using paddles or shifter and I get no DS either
Anyway I replaced the whole steptronic unit with another one from a 335i and I started the car and all that came up was a gearbox fault light? I double and triple checked all connections etc but still no luck. So I'm back at square 1. Does anybody know the potential cause of my original shifters issues which I have back in my car now or why the new one wouldn't even Register in the car? If the shifter is replaced does it need t be coded etc?? TIA |

You honestly probably missed a crimped wire somewhere. Mine had 3 or 4 that I had to repair. Some of them are tricky as they look good together, but when you spread them apart, they reveal kinks/crimps/cuts. Otherwise, the rest is tracing in the loom. Another reason is there is a engine code keeping you (in safe mode) off of DS.
