Engine Cover Circle Thing

Why do people remove the circle on the bottom right hand corner of their engine cover?

Here in this pic you can see it. I've seen it numerous times and I don't understand why it's even there in the first place.

Does anyone have a plastic cover inserted in this open circle? I don't have one, I didn't remove it and have owned my car since new. Unless the only dealer who has serviced since new car removed it, along with a few other fasteners that have gone missing during its service...lol
.... hence why I have moved on to self servicing whenever possible thanks to the awesome generous folks who contribute their knowledge and learnings to this forum. Frankly, I would not still own this baby if not for the existence of this forum!

Can't directly provide you one at this time. I see the covers from time to time when I go out to yards but wasn't looking for this round part. I will keep an eye out.

Dealer used to screw me up with the free oil changes they performed. They took off the lower little trapezoidal door to access plug, and then didn't put it back on. I discovered it when i got home 22 miles away. I called and they had to order a replacement. I went back and they put new one on. Next oil change, same thing but i remembered to look before I ever drove car off. They took car back to shop and put it back. I started learning to remove it myself before taking it in so they couldn't loose it.

I was doing oil changes at my own cost in between the dealer every 10,000 mile interval and making sure it wasn't falling off too. I don't go to that dealer now. I have another i go to only when I really need something I can't do.

How do you keep your engine bay so clean? I'm afraid to wash mine in fear of shorting injectors and other electronic items.

It's perfectly safe to clean most engine bays with a little water. With all the plastic coverings everything underneath will be plenty protected, but I wouldn't recommend blasting it with a pressure washer.

My process is as follows. Spray everything down with simple green. Let sit for a couple minutes and agitate the surface with a soft scrub brush. Rinse away thoroughly with garden hose. I then wipe everything down with a clean microfiber and either let air dry or blow off with compressor. The whole process takes maybe 15 minutes.

I own a small shop and clean a lot of engines bays. This method works very well and does not leave a greasy residue behind.

I usually take a pressure washer that has heated soapy water while the engine is running while watching out for any connectors
