Water pump testing with INPA

I have searched through INPA and I can't find how to get to testing/activating the water pump.
Can someone be kind enough to guide me to where those are?

Ctuna, thank you for those links, maybe now I might be able to load ISTA since I have never been able to download from bimmergeeks.

Also I found where the testing for the water pump is located in INPA.

My only problem now is when I double click on MSV 8.0 N52KP, INPA indicates from running to stopped and I get "error ecu subfunction not supported invalid for mat"

If I click on any selection for engine section inpa stops. Any thoughts?

Ista no longer available at bimmergeeks.
The water pump purge procedure can be executed without
using any diagnostics using a certain combination of pressing
buttons and peddles. As this takes a lot of charge out of the battery
you may want to have a charger on hand.

I would get a copy of ista going it looks like BMW is intent of getting all sources removed from
the Internet.

"Working at top of coolant expansion tank, loosen coolant expansion tank bleeder screw (green arrow). Then fill expansion tank until coolant comes out of bleeder screw. Then install and tighten bleeder screw. Bleeding cooling system: Trapped air is common when filling a cooling system and can result in improper cooling. It is important to bleed your cooling system each time the cooling system is serviced. Install expansion tank cap and be sure all bleeder screws are tight. Turn ignition ON (do not start engine), set temperature controls in vehicle interior to full warm and blower fan speed to Low. Press accelerator pedal to floor and hold down for ten seconds. Electric coolant pump will run for about 12 minutes to circulate coolant and bleed air from cooling system Once pump has run the cycle, check level of coolant in expansion tank and adjust as needed. Start and run engine at idle until it reaches operating temperature and check cooling system for leaks."

Did you run functional jobs f2 and f3 to see if communication with all ecu's is working.

No communication with the water pump is common when it's gone bad.

I decided to change out my coolant since my M3 is 10 years old with 39K miles. It is original water pump and coolant.
Coolant was same color blue as the new bmw coolant.

I had tried the method using the key on, heat on, accelerator pushed for 10 sec and nothing. That is when I tried using the INPA test.

Car has no error codes, all looks good. I let the car idle for about 30 minutes in the driveway with heater on. After about 20 minutes idling I revved the car up several times and watching my coolant temp with my Autel scan tool, not gauge in car and it fluctuated between 185 and 199.
Then I took the car out and drove the heck out of it and with Autel still connected it stayed in that same 185-199 range with a very sunny day at 82 degrees.
I dont think my pump has gone bad but not sure why it wont do the test to run pump and why INPA stops when I open MSV 8.0 N52KP

Heat temp to max, fan on minimum.. Best to have car on charger. Do you have Protool?

Don't M3's have a non N52 motors?
If you have a N54 or N55 motor or some kind of 8 cylinder .
If you have and aftermarket tune it sometimes interferes with
the BMW diagnostics running.
Some of the tunes have several tune maps and 0 map to
let bypass the tune.

The M3 model of the E90/E92/E93 3 Series range was powered by the BMW S65 V8 engine and was produced in sedan, convertible and coupé body styles. The E9x is the first and only standard production M3 powered by a V8 engine as its successor would revert to using a straight 6 engine. In the standard M3, the S65 engine rated at 309 kW (414 hp) at 8,300 rpm[98] and 400 N⋅m (295 lb⋅ft) at 3,900 rpm.[98]

The official 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration times for the coupé and sedan are 4.6 seconds with the DCT transmission (4.8 seconds with the manual transmission)[100] and 5.1 seconds for the convertible.[101]

The E90 and E92 versions received many positive reviews, including "the greatest all-around car in the world",[102] "the finest car on the market, period"[103] and "the best, most complete car in the world".[104]

THIS STUFF FROM WIKEPEDIA suggests you have a S65 motor and if you have a 6 I would think it
would at least be a N54 or N55 turbo in a M3.

M3 is S65 with a ESS aftermarket supercharger and tune with 575hp.

Does the MSV 8.0 N52KP not work for my engine? I tried the S65 selection and nothing runs in INPA on that.

I did the test on running water pump exactly as should be done

Your car does not run an n52 motor with msv80. Your car is an s65 with mss60 dme. If you're having issues with inpa on certain ecu's (some inpa downloads sometimes don't work great) I recommend downloading ista. Links can be found on this forum or with a Google search.

If you have aftermarket super charging you probably have aftermarket
software to run it . This kind of stuff is known to interfere with stock BMW
diagnostics. You will have to find the manufacturer of this Hardware and
Software to figure out what is what and it might be better to go to and
M3 Board where they will know something about it .

Might not run with any of the Ista software you find here.

The E90 M3 does not have an electric water pump like N52/54. It is mechanical so no water pump activation.

You more than likely already found this out.
