Weird paint cracking all over hood

Hello everyone!

I’ve been noticing more and more that the paint in my hood is cracking all over the place and I don’t know why. It’s a 2011 alpine white 335i which I’ve owned since 2013 and it had no accidents prior. I’m sure I’m going to have to get the whole hood resprayed but I was wondering how I could avoid this in the future? Also, is this common on a lot of the E92s? I’ve seen other posts about clearcoat failing but I haven’t seen anything like this. This is the only area on the entire car that has cracking paint. Thank you in advance!

You answered your own question. Asked if it was common then said you've never seen that before.

Maybe some kind of bad compound was put on it or it actually was in an accident. Never seen that either.

I haven't spent much time on the forums and the two times I've been in the cosmetic forums I haven't seen this problem.

I'm getting ready to get out of the military so this has been pretty far in the back of my mind but I was just looking for some insights.

If it was a bad compound, do you think I could expect this to happen to the rest of the car soon? Sorry. Not too familiar with compounds or body work.

Have you tried buffing and then waxing it?

Looks like the clear coat failed. Happens to old cars that have been in the sun its whole life, or due to incorrect repainting of the panel. I would probably just wrap the car instead of repainting
