iPhone 3G cradle adapter when?

Does anyone know when this will be available?

I am hoping that this same adapter will work in pre-MY2009 cars. Is that correct?

Hmm ... good question. If someone has a picture of the new 3G cradle, I could tell you if it works or not. I hate to say it ... but probably not.

I read online somewhere (random google search) that it was in development with release expected in November. I'm hoping.

I gave my wife my first generation iPhone and bought the snap-in adapter for her 530i. That works great. So I tried my 3G iPhone in her snap-in adapter and the fit is pretty snug with one small problem. The problem is the lip that slides over the top edge of the phone to hold it in the cradle. The lip will cover the 3G phone and hold it, but when I try to eject the phone I have to push that lip off of the phone while holding down the eject button (the lip retracts unrestricted when you push the adapter's eject button when ejecting a non-3G phone).

While in the cradle, the 3G phone charges just fine. Obviously, charging and a signal boost are the only benefits - no connectivity to the audio system. I don't use my phone in her car very often but it does work and if you take care not to break the adapter when ejecting it could be a solution until a dedicated 3G adapter is available.

Could anyone who has the iPhone snap-in adapter tell me if you can still access the audio jack with the phone in the cradle? In other words, what I'd like to do is to use the AUX jack under the armrest to play music from my iPhone while the phone is in the cradle. Of course, I won't be able to do that if the snap-in adapter blocks either the audio out port on the iPhone itself, or the AUX input under the armrest.

Has anyone checked this out or tried this yet?

Lassaxi, I don't have an answer for you, but I suspect that you could make it work if you cut a hole (or holes) into the adapter appropriately.

But, do you not have 6FL? Because, I would find it hard to be accustomed to using the iPod with 6FL normally, but then to only be able to use the AUX jack when the phone is in the cradle charging. If you don't have 6FL though, I guess there's no concern there.

No, you cannot access any ports when the 3G (or non-3G) phone is in the cradle. Also, I don't see any way to create access.

I don't have 6FL. I don't really mind using the AUX jack because I don't use an iPhone/iPod in the car very often. I really only use it on long trips, and then I typically set up a playlist for the trip in advance, so I never really have to touch the controls while driving.

Thanks. Occasionally, you'll see a cradle for a phone that replicates the headphone jack on the side of the cradle. I take it there is no such jack on the iPhone snap-in adapter?

No, there's no jack. The Snap-In adapter is really only for charging and signal boost. It is not designed for any audio functions.

Anyone have a part number or source for the iphone 3G adapter? I have both 6FL and 6NF in my 09 E93 and would like to utilize the smarphone features. Thanks.
