335xi dinan upgrade in winter driving?

hello all, i am likely getting the 335xi with the dinan performance upgrade, and was wondering how likely it will be to drive in the winter, here in edmonton alberta canada (pretty serious winters). with the dinan upgrade, these make roughly 400hp, even with the best winter tires, will this thing be manageable in the snow and ice?

If you can modulate your right foot, with good snow tires a 335xi should be no problem even with a tune.

^what he said!

Yeah the car may make 400hp but you still ultimately have control of that power using your right foot. Just don't stomp on it and you'll be fine.

I think will find the car is actually much better to drive. With all the increased low end torque the car is much smoother.

Then when it is summer life becomes that much better

On previous cars, I have had great results with Michelin Pilot Alpins, but I'm not sure what sizes they are made in. Any major tire manufactures winter tires should do the trick though.

definitely shouldn't have huge issues in the winter w/400hp and snows - especially since you have an xi already!

i'm a big fan of Dunlop M3s personally. i've had blizzaks on previous cars and went to the dunlop on my 335. needless to say, they've made me into a believer. they ride really well and have tons of grip - even through chicago winters.

definitely worth checking 'em out

I"m sure you'll be fine, just use common sense and your right foot sparingly.

I might recommend Procede V3 though, you can switch to a stock-like low boost map w/ a push of a button in bad weather, then when the roads dry up you can push it again and have all your 400+ ponies back on the road. Best of both worlds.

It will be fine. My previous car - Subaru STI had 350 whp and it was fine in the snow.

"Procede V3" - is that a boost regulator of some sort? that's great, kind of like a valet key mode in the old corvette zr-1, turn a switch and it cuts power to the engine. great concept.

I also came from a tuned STI to my 335xi. In all my cars, including a 400+ whp rwd monster mustang, snow tires have dramatically improved winter traction. I have had good experiences using both the Winter Sport M3 and Blizzak LM-25s. Both on my mustang and my STI. Come Thanksgiving, I am going to put a set of winter tires on my 335xi as well.
