serial bluetooth adapter and the procede

Look what I picked up today - a wireless bluetooth serial adapter.
It was a bit difficult to find, but I found it and it was on clearance.

Has anyone gotten this to work on their procede?

people on other threads are complaining about these adapters being too slow for datalogging. The procede com port runs at 9600 bauds. This thing supports 2400 to 921600 bauds, so 9600 is within spec .

I thought this out already.

1. power inverter
2. snip the wires and run it across 12v with a voltage divider.

I'm doing this on the bench with the procede and this adapter. If this works, I let ya guys know.

A voltage divider? Risky...

Voltage dividers are effective if you know the load characteristics and can safely predict the swing of the input source voltage but in this case you probably cant...Why not use a L780x? Whats the power requirements of the IOGEAR GBS301? I think I saw somewhere it is 6V @ 300ma? So a L7806 would be fine.

If you do a search there are quite a few reviews with issues on that bluetooth adapter but maybe its just picky or people just dont know how to deal with a RS232.

If you are really ambitious (+ more $) you might want to consider a wifi-RS232. Shouldnt be any issues with data logging and an industrial version should have a wide input range for the source voltage.

Heres one I pulled out of the ether:

Thanks for the info. Yeah, the voltage regulator would be a better idea - I've built them when I was in kid in electronics class.. pretty cool.

I considered going with the wifi-rs232 like a member on this list did, but it was over $150 (and the one you linked to is $200). My solution, if I can get it to work, would be more less than half the cost.

I finally got the adapter working. I can now discover the device and create a virtual connection to a device (procede), but the procede will not open the com port. It will say: Unable to open COMXX (COM11 in my case).

Also, after two minutes of inactivity the channel shuts down. There must be a timeout parameter I can adjust.

If I resolve the "Unable to open COM11" problem, I'm set (i think ).

Anyone able to shed light on this problem I'm having? I seem to be able to hyperterminal to that com port with no problem (will hyperterminal complain if I can't connect to a com port?).

It runs fine off of the 12 VDC power in the vehicle.

It doesn't work, or at least for me. I tried multiple configurations nearly a year ago with no success. The port setting information was limited and requires dip switch setting.

I was having a similar problem with the Procede software. From what Dustin has tried and myself, the Procede software will not connect to comm ports above 10. Try to move things around and use a comm port 10 or below. I haven't been able to test my solution yet, but I will once I get the car out again.

Yeah I figured that one out earlier today when reading the microsoft website on a similiar issue:

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/Sho...34808&SiteID=1

I create another blue tooth com port which auto assigned it to com7. When the user software talks to it, it cuts the connection. I think I have to jump pins 7 and 8. Will try that later.

I wonder if that will affect the longevity of the device?

what else do you need in terms of port setting config? All it needs to know is the baud rate and parity right? I'm sure i'm missing something.

Im using the Parani devices. One at the NB and one Procede. You can pair them (for security reasons :-) )
the communication is

- baudrate is 57600
- 8 data bits
- no parity
- 1 stop bit
- no Hardware flow control ( wires: TX, RX and ground)
at the Procede side you need a crossover cable.
That's about it.
