Finally starting my airbag install
Now that I've finally found a clean shell (4th times the charm) I can actually start building the car I want. It's an 09 335xi. I already swapped the tan interior for black (most of it anyway, need to finish installing some other stuff) and got the compressor mounted. I put it in the passenger rear 1/4 panel and prepped the driver side in case I decide to add a second compressor. The open compartment and where the seat belt retractor go were lined with dynamat then covered in 1/2" jute (shredded cotton/wool in a dense mat). The bolt in panel is covered both sides with dynamat. I sewed up an envelope out of jute and foil that goes over the compressor to help cut down on sound even more. I remote mounted the compressor inlet with 3/8" hose so the filter is in the trunk. The leader was extended with 3/8 air line to reach the tank that I hung from the rear deck. I'm mounting the valve block in the deep part of the plastic trunk floor with the lines running out through grommeted holes in the bottom. All the relays, fuses, wiring will be hidden I'm just not sure where yet. Here's some pics of the compressor mounted and the sound insulation. I'll be adding more pics as the install continues.
