Map update only progresses when driving
I have never heard that you have to be driving for a map update to progress but that is definitely the case with my vehicle. when I drive it updates at about 1% per minute when I stop, (with engine running) It stops updating. Is this because the battery needs to be in a state of 'being charged' to allow the update to proceed?

Mine updates with engine off, idling or whilst driving so possibly I’ve a real good battery. It’s possible that poor voltage might be restricting update to certain criteria which in your case is driving. A voltage check of battery whilst off, idling and a bit of revs to compare would give you some clues.

I have done many map updates with the car parked and engine running throughout.
When I realized you could use the CIC while the maps update I started doing the updates during long drive, sometimes turning off the car and having it resume the update later in the day when I started it up again. The system is fairly robust. |

That's a good point: The previous owner had the battery changed (about 600 miles ago) by a 'pro' I guess but they may have messed it up a bit (I found part of the hold down clip in the trunk), perhaps there's a drain or something? I think will do the voltage checks as suggested. (now that you mention it I do have an error: "5DF4 System voltage too low" - perhaps that could be something to do with it...)
