Is this their way of recreating that "Boomer" thing again?

Glad they kept the rotary knob, but still kind of annoyed at the lack of physical HVAC controls. Seems like they are pushing towards a more "touchscreen" experience and will eventually get rid of the knob entirely. And they need to quit with these weird gauge cluster designs, just give us more options.

So we're onto iDrive 8 now?
I'll reserve a full opinion until it is shown in greater detail, but from the few pictures shared here so far I'm not impressed. The majority of the buttons are gone for touch screen controls which I'm not a fan of. But the control display looks very bland and lacks a defining character. It looks like the theme is one of those "sample themes" that you'd see a company put on a system like this to show a company what features it has, not the final product. I dislike what MB did with moving all buttons on screen with their "HyperScreen" they showed off this year, but at least that carries a style with it and looks elegant. |

This is all good and fine but I would prefer that they paid more attention to the driving, suspension, engine, etc. instead of focusing on an IPhone clone.

Looks like the “Ultimate Driving Machine” is dead. I for one am more interested in how my BMW drives than whether it can talk to me.

I laughed out loud at this insanity! Good to see BMW finally admitting they understand the controversy!

Imitating M-B with a dazzling, elongated iPad display but adding a hideous speedo/tach. How about dazzling me with some decent steering feedback and a timeless design?

Compare it to what MB just displayed with HyperScreen and you are left wondering how BMW might be on a losing path against MB in this area when they were ahead of them for so long. Voice tech is a key part of the future of car infotainment systems, but they aren't the main focus. I am very happy that my iDrive 7 car understands me most of the time when I'm asking it to take me somewhere and that's about all I use it for... But displaying map data well and contacts well and all that jazz is important. I'm in my car going somewhere and needing to do things along the way and all of this tech should be about helping me do both of these things better. I'm not interested in holding a conversation with my car. That's what my passenger is there for And somehow it looks worse than iDrive 7... |

It’s like watching some weird version of the movie Cars...
I found it mildly entertaining but not sure how an old 7 Series can drive itself...lol |

Nobody likes the counterintuitive boomerang gauges. Why can't they just give us digital round gauges like everyone else or at least alternative dials to switch to like MB where you can cycle through a bunch of different displays.

Agree, for a company that prides themselves on being a pioneer for automotive technology would it be so hard to offer a little bit of customization? :
