Repainting Rims

Painting Chromed Rims:

I purchased a set of used rims a few years ago and that I still love and were professionally painted, but the paint on lips are now lifting. I believe the seller said the deep dish lips were originally chromed. I contacted Union rims and they said they cannot paint over the chrome. Any suggestions would be great since I still want to keep the rims but they need to be repainted soon.

Unfortunately you can't just paint over chrome. I mean you can, but paint will not adhere and eventually chip off.

You must prep the chrome pieces by either sand blasting or etching.

Have you tried contacting a few places that specialize in coatings?
They may have the means to do this right and even powder coat your wheels.

Thanks, and I presume this is why the paint is lifting since it was improperly done the first time. Union Rims should know best but I can call some other places to see about sand blasting. I like the rims but do not want to spend the same price painting them as new rims cost.

I do all of my own powdercoating. Chrome i havent done, but I have a set of chrome wheels on my Ford Lightning that I think I'm going to try and coat. I'll let you know how it goes.
