Diesel Advice
I bought my 2010 Diesel 335D on the first of the year. We carbon blasted, did an EGR delete, swirl flap block off, vacuum refresh and VRSF downpipe with JR 2.8 tune. I drove 200 miles without any problems, drifted a full day then noticed the small turbo wasn’t really kicking in. I drove back from the track and got a reduced engine power code. The wastegate vacuum line had popped off. I put it back on, drove around town for a few hours and it was fine. On the way home, floored it in third gear and got the same turbocharger/supercharger code A code. It didn’t have any low end power. Upon arriving home the vacuum line hadn’t popped off. Noticed a lot of soot coming out from the passenger side of the engine bay. I still have some power down low but it is not as happy as it was before. All hell breaks loose at 3500.
My theory is a cracked exhaust manifold. All of the vacuum lines looks good. Any recommended areas to check? |

Vacuum actuator(s). When you drive the car, park it and immediately open the hood. Does the switch over actuator rod move? My guess is it doesn’t and is stuck open because the actuators aren’t activating. Kind of a pita to do but can be replaced in an hour is so and if you’ve done vacuum lines you have been right at them on the passenger side back of the engine. AArod sells them, don’t recall but about 60 a piece. They are in a hot part of the bay, the plastic gets brittle and they break / die easily.

So I have an update : the EGR plate was loose. Soot is fine. I now have a fueling code issue “p0192” “p0226”. The car has an occasional rough idle and goes back to normal when the code goes away. When it’s rough it throws a reduced engine power code. It comes on randomly and will go away without cycling the car or clearing the code. Would it be possible for a sensor to be dirty? Would a bad HPFP do this? Would a clogged fuel filter cause this? Since it was drifted possibly the junk in the fuel tank got into the filter.

First get a real scan tool....those are generic codes. Yes ALL of those are POSSIBILITIES. But without a true BMW code you're throwing away time and money.
