I tried opening the oil filter cap on my N53, but it won't budge, the oil filter removal tool has bent but the cap won't come off, anyone know the solution to this? this car is driving me nuts

That's not the cars fault man that's the 45 iq windowlicker that replaced the oil filter last time and probably put an o ring in place but did not lubricate it and after that he decided to also overtorque it.. go figure! I would suggest having a spare cap on hand just in case you have to really beat up this thing to get it off, I've had to use channel locks before on junkyard cars... e46 you can because of the top nut, n5x you really can't. Which tool are you using? I use this one.

hey there will!
This car was always touched by BMW so I was super pissed when I realised it had been over torqued, I'm using an 86mm oil filter removal tool, the kind that fits right on top of the filter cap. I might sound like an idiot, but would a hot engine help? (my engine was cold when I tried)

and if a hot engine does not help then what's your suggestion? melt it using a hot screwdriver or hammer it off?

This is the tool that I use. I would try not to destroy it but you could probably get it off by getting a flathead dug into an edge angled towards where it would rotate counterclockwise and hit it with a hammer to get it to rotate. Dealer people can be lazy too. They think they're not gonna be the next guy that'll have to deal with getting that cap off

I think you've put too much faith in a dealership techs. The horror stories I hear from a buddy who works as a BMW tech have steered me far away from bringing my car in for anything more than a last resort. Too little fucks to give. It's mind blowing how often gutentight is used as the torque spec for something.

I use this with a 22mm ratcheting box wrench (or in your case, breaker bar). Pretty easy to find. Amazon if you need to.
