Latest Software Updates

I've heard a lot of buzz about software updates for iDrive, etc.

My questions are:
1. How do I know what version of the software I'm currently running in my car?
2. Is there a single place where I can look to determine the latest released version number of the software (so I can know whether I need an update). I'd like to be able to check every few months to determine whether I have the latest version of the software, so I'm hoping to find a website that is kept up to date with the latest version numbers. (I do understand that I can't do the updates myself, so I don't need the software itself, just the version number.)

1. Only your dealer can tell you; there is no way to tell through secret menus, etc.

2. The website is called e90post.com.

I don't think you'll find a site that is more to up to date than this forum. By the way, just knowing that a software update was released doesn't really do you any good. Unless you can demonstrate a problem with your current software, your BMW dealer will typically not update the software under warranty.

I just had my oil changed last week and told by the service dept to make another 2 hr appointment to get my software updated. my car was built 9-2005 so I'm not sure if there is a recent update released or I never had the pre sept 2005 software installed on mine. btw, I'm located in Germany but my car is US specs.
