330i 3IM with 328i throttle body
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if the throttle body of my 328 will fit on my 330i 3IM? What do people do when they order a 3IM, I guess they just throw on their 325 or 328 throttle body? 328 throttle body https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=13_1130 330 throttle body https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=13_1130 If my 328 throttle body fits, then which gasket do I use, https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...t/13547582931/ or https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...t/13547522361/ ? Thx |

All throttle bodies have the same bolt pattern/spacing and will fit (N51/N52/N53/N54/N55).
The difference is the 330(and 325) vs use the MSV70 ecu and it operates the ecu differently(plus has a different connector); vs the 328 MSV80 ecu People use the TB thats on the car(and I doubt even change the o-ring) |

This helps alot I even found out my car has msv80 ecu. I will order the o-ring that fits my 2011 328xi then. I will use the small disa from my 328 also(it only has 60k miles), and I plan on ordering this disa https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...1850&jsn=14337, it's alot cheaper than oem, and it is easy to access if ever there was a problem. Do you think skimping out on the non oem is bad idea? I don't think it's super cheap chinese knock-off. https://www.beckarnley.com/about.html |

Are you sure your 328 has disas? Canada never got N51 SULEV cars (unless they were imported) in which case your car already has the manifold installed.
And its widely known that non-oem disas are very much a hit and miss situation where most fail pretty quickly; and yes BMW disas arn't cheap either |

MSV80 throttle bodies and N54/N55 have the same connector plus the same O.D that the hose/pipe clamp onto the N54 TBs are longer (~1cm) and have that extra nose piece for the Elbow to slide on(but that can be machined/cut off); That's a whole other topic which I'm screwing around with now |

I'm not sure about the disa's, I thought the 328 had one disa, the right 1 or small disa. I've had this manifold(330i) for a while but never installed it, now the crankshaft sensor has gone so I thought this would be a good time to do that swap. |

328s never has disas unless its an N51 engine(and it would have both and the same manifold as the 330). We in canada got the 323 2.5L N52 but it has a smaller 3 disa manifold.
Only Europe and Australia got the single disa(2 stage) intake manifold |

I don't remember where I got that info. So I guess it's an extra 200$, and that's for non oem part. I might pass on the upgrade. Dude, you seem to know alot about this, awesome. I wish you were my neighbor. |

I think there was a guy here from Canada that had a 323 which only had one disa in his manifold I believe the large one and he modified it to fit the small one by cutting the hole out. Likely not your situation if it's a 328i.
If your 328 has disa valves then you've got an N51 or n52b25 with 3 stage in AU and it's not the first time someone has mistakenly swapped a 3 stage into a car with a 3 stage manifold lol. Beck and Arnley just rebadge stuff, that valve I've seen it before it has the same top pin as the URO unit. I bet they're the same inside too as other Chinese valves, for whatever reason that manufacturer likes to paint it blue. At least it's not the small one that would be a pain to change if it fails, did you manifold come with any valves at all? |

Yes it does have both vavles, on the big one the flap had fallen off, the small one is very stiff and the rubber contour is damaged(the large disa also). Also, do you know what this is? And will I have an extra on my 328xi? Thx a lot for your help, much appreciated, David |

What do the valves part numbers end on? You want 538 for the small one, large doesn't even matter as the flap decided to not be part of the valve anymore lol. My small valve in my car has the seal ripped like that, they all rip at about the same spot. You can try and maybe with some gasket maker bond the remaining seal back in place. Make sure to test the small one in inpa. It looks very oily and might not work. The part you pointed to is the pcv heater elbow, you will have one, likely the same in your car, that one looks beat up.

You are lucky! that is a 3 stage; Check the manifold, it will have a sticker saying N52B30OL or N52B25OL on it. The 2.5L is the 323 manifold and sometimes people swap it thinking its the 3L 3 stage mani.
IF you do have the 3.0L one then you won some sort of lottery |

And yes, the pvc heater elbow is beat up, that's why I'm asking about it. My dad, he was 73 at the time, picked this up for me at a scrap yard. Must have been difficult for him to remove the manifold, and he probably got this connector out with a screw driver. I'll try to find an o-ring, and take the one from my 328. Back to the disas, yeah the large one is much easier to access, so I would be ready to gamble on a cheaper than oem for that one. For the small disa, 538, if I understand correctly and if it still functions the damaged gasket should be only a minor issue? The exterior part is also damaged. Although this part should easily be glued, compared to the rest. I guess the intake manifold has to be off for testing the disa with inpa, which means I would have to wait to order the parts I need. Thx again for taking the time to help me, David |

I wish, but this the one my father picked up from a scrap yard. It's in worse condition than I thought possible. Both disa's are crap, and it's dirty inside. Now I have to figure out a way to clean the inside. |

Ahh gotcha. I mean the manifold; some spray9 or detergent and water and that'll clean up.
The Disas are common, Youll have to rebuild them with a fix kit or replace with oem ones(aftermarket apparently do not last). The ripped seals arn't the biggest deal, It'll still seal within the manifold but itll still do its job 99.8% if they actuate. |

Hi,
I finally got everything working, started up right away. Went to test drive it, but when I hit 140kmh the hood popped open and cracked the windshield, then it did a flip and smashed the the rear window. It also dented the trunk and right rear fender. Then as I was limping home the motor seized, I think because of some junk left in the 3IM. My car, which was mint this morning is now on a tow truck on the way to the scrap yard. ![]() Here's a pic https://ibb.co/17n7Zbd Last edited by DavidPayne; 04-01-2021 at 01:30 PM.. |

I plugged in the small disa, and when I press the gas pedal it does move a little at about 4500rpm, but it does not shut completely. With inpa I had trouble, but it does make it move a little every once in while. Does that mean it's shot? I did not update the ecu yet. Thx, David Last edited by DavidPayne; 04-12-2021 at 01:29 PM..
