Question Anyone running the cheap ebay 17T or 19T turbos?

When I first heard about these cheap turbos a while back, I wondered who in their right mind would waste their time and/or money on those things (a pair is around $800). I saw several posts on FB and other forums where guys were lucky to get a few thousand miles out of them before they has issues.

Fast forward a year, and it sounds like the companies that are making/selling them (VIV) have actually been making some pretty big improvements to them to increase reliability (better bushings, thrust plates, seals, etc).....

For $800......it might be a cheap way to get into the 550+hp range without dumping $2,500+ on a set of RB or Pure turbos.

Anyone running these things??

I just watched that video, and they may have fixed some of those things, but I'd check before you put them on the car.

For sure. That's the main problem with those china turbos....even if there are versions out there, who knows what they actually ship you. I've heard of people getting balance sheets for those turbos....and having them checked out, and they are not even close to being balanced.

It just depends on the cost savings vs. the risk.......for some people it's worth it, some not.

That's why I was trying to find some more info on them......

Yep, I've been following that group for a while now. The "new" version of the 19T's are out, but no real feedback as of yet.

It seems like the biggest issue is inconsistent quality control....some people have great luck with them, some have horrible luck......

Right, I can’t decide what to do. I’m going to be switching my turbos out soon and can’t decide if I want to just buy the eBay ones and save some cash or just save up some more money and get a set of better tested turbos.

I might of just lucked out by getting a pair of 19T eBay turbos that I've been driving for past 10k hard miles at 25-26psi. No smoking no rattle they hold perfect boost with zero issues. I didn't have them rebalanced either. Just adjusted the wastegates and slapped them in.

How do you like the 19t's compared to the stock turbos? How's the lag? How's the power? Was it a pain getting a custom tune dailed in for them?

More info please!!

Plenty of those eBay turbos out there. It seems to be more common then the bigger named brands. It's a risk, but if you're willing to drop your subframe again to replace them then why not make 600hp with $1000 turbos

I'm seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on a set of those VIV 19t's. Ebay has a package with inlets, outlets, and the new updated viv 19t turbos with the upgrades internals for $1,200. That so cheap it's hard to not got give them a try.....from what I've read, a custom tune pushing them around 20psi will get you 550-ish hp at the tires pretty easy....700+ if you do PI which I don't want to mess with...

Just thinking about my options here.....I have a lot of miles on the oem turbos.....

I’m debating on doing the same thing. The only thing is with that bundle from amazon they tack on another like $150 for shipping (the bastards). If I could get them on prime with free shipping I would have bought them already haha

With Amazon...I wonder if you can purchase one of those 3 or 5 year protection plans for cheap? Might be worth it....less of a gamble.

I'm wanting to stay pretty conservative....not wanting to go with an expensive PI setup, keep the boost around 20-22psi...and still have good response.

That being said....am I better off with the 17t's...or 19t's?

I would go with the 17t the 19t aren’t as tested at the 17t.

Garage List
I fitted the China 17T two year ago, no problems, pulls like a train. A local BMW tuning shop got UK 504bhp & 712 NM of torque out of it before boost leaks. Best way to tune would be via MHD & Wedge!

My turbos have about 30k miles on them and the PO probably rarely used them for the 15k of those they put on them. But I've seen this video and if the time ever comes I'm thinking 17t/19t with this rebuild kit is the way to go. I've had a turbo apart many eons ago, there aren't too many moving parts and I think I can handle the rebuild.
