Mid-DIY Oil Pan Gasket Quesrion
Afternoon gentlemen,
I’m in the middle of replacing my oil pan gasket and I may or may not be running into an issue. Looking for some feedback. I’m a the point of reinstallation where I have all of the oil pan bolts torqued down to 8nm and I’m about to get started on the angle torques, 90 for most, 180 for the longer few. I’ve just realized that there is a small gap between the edge of the pan and the back corner of the block where the two meet the bell housing. My gut is screaming at me to be alarmed, and that these should sit flush... however, the bolt that connects the bell housing to the oil pan in that corner threaded in no problem, which makes me think all is well. Can anyone who is familiar with this job chime in, is this normal? Because I’m on mobile I can only share the Imgur album link, later tonight I’ll come back and embed the images in the post. The green bolt in the images is the one that threaded in fine. The red oval outlines the gap in seeing. View post on imgur.com Thanks! |

Also, as you can see, there is a hairline of a lip where the oil pan hangs below the bell housing. It’s not measurable it’s so small, but it’s definitely not 100% flush

Thanks, I played around with a .003 feeler gauge and wasn’t able to slide it between the pan and the gasket so I think it’s ok also. Going to “let her rip taterchip”, hopefully I don’t have a leak when all is done. Thanks again for checking in!
