MHD Burbles
I know this may be more of a personal preference but I want to ask about my burbles because something ain't right here..
I'm currently running MHD Stage 2+ V9.0 with ARM kittyless downpipes on my N54, otherwise my exhaust is pretty stock (still got mufflers and what not). I'm getting quite annoyed with the way the burbles work. I have the burbles set to the most aggressive, and the longest setting I can put for time.. yet it sounds like garbage (again personal preference).. i want more of an explosion sound like the N55 and B58 guys get, all i get are these tiny popcorn burbles. I have to literally BEAT the hell out of the car and then do a big downshift to get at least ONE if i'm lucky two big pops out.. what is going on? Are N54 burbles just weak even at the most aggressive setting? I hate the sound of these popcorn burbles, I'd rather have that N55 style explosion sound that pops giant ones every few seconds like a gunshot rather than the tiny popcorn burbles that constantly go on on my E92.. and i'm also tired of beating the big pops out my motor and i'm sure the motor is tired as well ![]() Is my last choice to just get a custom tune and specify i want that explosion/cannonball special? lol As for the N55 owners, you're lucky.. for real what's so different about these motors that the N55 motors running MHD have literal explosions and cannonball sounds coming out their exhausts? I hear straight pipe N54s with burbles set to aggressive and they sound nothing like the N55/B58.

Don't you have secondary cats? I think that plays a big factor since N55 just came with a resonator in the midpipe.
Edit: Here's a video comparing the two. It's an E82 but the idea is the same. Last edited by Aceway; 04-18-2021 at 05:46 PM.. |

To each their own with those settings for sure. Keep in mind running it aggressively will prematurely wear our your turbo seals. All that fuel is travelling through the turbo before exploding in the down pipes. I also find the downshifts rough with burbles turned up on medium . I have them pretty soft

I did notice though my local shops refused to remove my secondary cats because they say it's illegal.. maybe I should start calling them resonators when I ask them to chop them off |

Must just be your exhaust, mine are very loud especially when it's hot out, I have it on aggressive and the duration way down. I do have a straight pipe though. Also I wouldn't be worried about your turbo seals or anything like that...it's been discussed a bunch but I personally asked rob at RB turbo if it would wear out the turbos I just bought and he said this
"As for the LC and burble it is hard to say if it will cause issues over the very longhaul, but can say we are not familiar with any issues as a whole across our portfolio for many years now and as such we have to assume it is over all harmless. Overall it seems to be some rumor that other turbo builders have started to help mask their build related issues, either that or we just never have had customers who actually end up using the features (many have asked to a similar response above)." LC is launch control btw |

My old mans X3M40i pops great like that video also. Maybe try hard but shorten the duration to .5 or less.

Ehhh I'm not too worried what it does to my turbos, it gives me an excuse to get pures or a big single!!

You said you have them on the longest settings? I have mine on aggressive and 1 second on both and it pops loud. I am full straight pipe though, but try 1 second delay and see what happens

I'm going to be deleting the secondary cats because I'm suspecting that they're also getting clogged, I'll be replacing them with Vibrant 1792s to help with rasp.. as for the stock mufflers I think I'm gonna do the PE mod. Currently I'm only on catless downpipes, rest of the exhaust is stock so I feel like that's really killing the sound of the pops

I was debating getting the VRSF race exhaust, though I'd have to cut it up to make it fit on my car because it's an XI not RWD.. that was my biggest problem because I really don't feel that great knowing I'm cutting up a brand new $700 exhaust

I have catless FP's, stock exhaust, and the secondary cats are removed and input vibrant resonators in their place. I think it sounds great....quite when cruising, but agressive sounding when you are hard on the has. I played around with the burble settings a few times....I can get it so agressive when I can feel in through the floor when the fuel in the exhaust pipes explodes.......after a few days of that, I figure it was a horrible idea, so I turned them off. It can't be good on turbos or anything else when it does that..... especially when I can feel it through the floor.
But...to each their own I guess. |

It's just your exhaust get rid of the secondary's and do the pe mod like you mentioned and you'll hear them. I have stock downpipes secondary cat delete and an "is" muffler and it's pretty loud on aggressive I'll post a vid tom

I always have the impression that besides potential damages it also affects my AFR/sensors somehow, making it all less sharp.
Since I run without, engine seems to be more "stable".. Don't have hard measurements on this one. N=1 ;-)
