Rear main seal 8mm or 12mm?

So ive been getting conflicting information about rear main seals. Is it ok to use the 8mm on an 09 and older? I have heard these dont require the extra sealant in order to work.

I went with the 11117587168 8mm on my '08 6MT last year. Working just fine for me.

Did you do the sealant? Also what did you do just set it flush?

I used Permatex Ultra Grey and just pushed it in till it was flush.
