I purchased a 2010 335d sport package with 107k miles on it. Car was phenomenal on test drive. Tranny is like butter and yes the torque is amazing. After about 300 miles of driving the car when into limp mode and CEL went on. Mind you this car had a massive pile of service records. Ran a OBD test and came with trouble codes P2099 and P2457 (boost leak and egr cooler below threshold). Car was driven by a mom so highly doubt car was thrashed.

Do the turbos fail after 100k miles? Or might these just be simple maintenance issues for gaskets?
Could a pipe be busted so it puts engaged limp mode?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Are you sure P2099 is a boost leak code? from searching it seems to be a rich fuel mixture code.

are you using a basic obd scanner or have you got a bmw specific one or ISTA on your laptop?

Sorry misread the code. It's P0299, turbo/supercharger under boost. But I use a blue driver as my personal reader and my father has shop with a pro obd reader.

that makes more sense, we all make typos!

So first thing i would do is a vacuum check. It is possible one of your turbos has pooed itself, it's not super high miles but i've seen diesel turbos fail way before 100k. But also, if the turbo fails catastrophically you'd see a cloud of blue smoke as all the oil going into the turbo blows through into the intake.

anyway, check if the actuator rod moves:

this is a good video as well but it looks more at replacing the vac hoses if they do have a leak:

A smoke test of the vac hoses would be useful too.

At 107k miles and driven by someone you suspect was easy on it, you could have a CBU issue. More than likely needs it anyway if it hasn't been done yet and the car isn't deleted.
