N54 Dinan stage 2 >>> Piggyback??
Quick question everyone. Im picking up my first E92 that has a Dinan stage 2 flash, I was wondering what folks are doing if they want to go with a different tune other than Dinan? From what I understand, Dinan is a reflash, not a piggyback. I'd like to have a little more flexibility. Car currently has stock turbos, stepped 5" intercooler, aftermarket charge pipe, Dinan carbon intake, muffler delete, new coils, index 12 injectors. The first thing I would like to do is add catless downpipes. I'd like to maybe turn the boost up a bit with a different tune. Let me k ow your thoughts and input!! Thanks!

So my brother has the Dinan tune and it feels stronger than my MHD tune. Similar mods on both cars, but his just feels to be stronger. For you it probably doesn't matter but he doesn't have to remove it because the software is CARB certified anyway.
why would you want a piggyback anyway? they can cause more issues than they are worth. General recommendation from most around here is MHD (which is a reflash) is the way to go for N54. |

Same hardware? MHD or JB4 with MHD BEF is the way to go. |

You should be good for Stage 1+ MHD map (~ upto 390bhp/600nm) that's at the crank if I'm not mistaken. 93oct will give you decent power. You'll get the Most power if you run the Ethanol maps, although you might have to upgrade your LPFP. MHD recommends downpipes if you want to run more aggressive maps (stage 2/2+) No idea how much Dinan maps cost and if they even give you free updates or Dataloging capability. People talk crap about the Dinan tune but FWIW I loved mine and never had any desire to change it.
I also felt that it was faster than with the Cobb stage 1+ and eventually 2+ aggressive that I had on my other n54 car. If you want more power then change it, but I like the Dinan tune. |

Mods are "similar but different", mine is more modded when it comes to suspension, wheels, etc but ill leave that out since it doesn't make much of an acceleration difference. Brother's car: Dinan CF intake Dinan axle back exhaust Dinan intercooler Dinan Stage 2 91 tune My car: AFE Dual intake system VRSF 5" intercooler Gutted exhaust Forge Diverters MHD v9 stage 1+ E30mix My car is much better maintained than his and has less miles yet his feels stronger and more "consistent" than mine. Sometimes mine slams you in the seat and other times its just "meh". His always throws you into the seat. We both have stock DPs since we live in CA and have bi annual smog checks and its a pain to swap them back and fourth. |

I went from Dinan Stage 3 tune to MHD. From my experience Dinan tune is only builds boost from 4K to 6.2K RPMs after that it falls off.
MHD 2+ tune you'll pull all the way to the red line and pulls harder too. For me MHD is a much better experience.
