First 5 months with my E90 335i
Having learned how to drive using my father's 1968 2002, I've longed to return to driving a BMW. For over a year, I tried to find a used E39 M5 without success. On my way home from work, I saw a for sale sign on my current vehicle, a 2007 335i sedan, with sport package, premium package, heated seats, black leather interior, automatic transmission
![]() Never in a million years would I have believed I would be owning a car with an automatic transmission! I've been rowing gears for over 30 years, and love it, but test driving the 335i in sport mode opened my eyes! I flew into a nice slow off ramp from excessive freeway speed and it dropped down several gears while I was on the brakes hard, then snapped back up the range much faster than I ever could, with nice little engine blips between the gears. This old manual junkie was converted, from that point forward, I would no longer second guess the hard work of Teutonic automotive engineers. Since the colors, options and price was all in my envelope, I was driving the car home the next day. I only look back to savor all the delightful moments this vehicle has given me. Car control clinic with the local BMCCA chapter gave me the training to drive the car hard, like it seems to revel in. I have no plans to modify this car beyond tires, I like the colors, styling, ride, steering, comfort, this car just puts a great big sh#t eating grin on my face every morning I climb into it. Below are a few snaps from happy times, sorry, the car is a bit dirty, but I drive it constantly here in the frequently rainy Pacific Northwest. Life is good. |

It certainly is different from a stick shift, but it offers all sorts of new ways of driving, I'm having a blast learning how to take advantage of it. I recently found that you can short shift in automatic mode by quickly lifting your foot off the gas then getting right back on, real fun!
