Strange noise in the engine
Hi all,
can I ask you for advice, I find some strange background ticking noise from the engine or gerabox. It's not depending from the temprature of the engine. I wonder if it's normal sound for 3.0 M57tu2 or I have some problem? |

E70 makes exactly same noise (90K mi), E90 - absolutely quiet (132K mi). It could be number of things. My online search suggested failing vacuum pump. However, the stethoscope suggests that it is coming from the injector #1. I first noticed the noise at ~ 72K mi. It did not got worse or better during last 3 years / 18K mi. Would be great to know what causes yours. |

Hello, first of all, when taking off the oil cap, it's normal to start knocking, no problem with that. When the cap is on his place, I just hear normal or almost normal knocking of injectors in additional the engine cover seems to be missing (it absorbe a lot of the noise), I think you have no reason to worry.
