wastegate ticking issue_thank you Mr.5!
after reading over mr. 5's post on his fix of the waste gate ticking issue i decided that taking my car into the dealership for the 29.2 software was out the question.
my car is a 01/07 build & has 22xxx miles. the waste gate issue started a couple months ago, figure 1k miles a month so at 20k miles it started. originally, i didn't do any research on the problem & figured i had an exhaust leak due to the fact that it started happening soon after i added my dixis titanium exhaust. took it to my boy's shop, TNT Motorsports, in granada hills & we attempted to diagnose the issue. found no problems with the exhaust..at this point it's become a lot more noticeable & i'm embarrassed to start the car in front of ppl cuz it sounds like it's going to explode! finally started doing some research & found that my problem was a common problem amongst 335 owners. Mr.5 posted an amazing DIY on how to fix the problem without having to upgrade to the 29.2: see his post below, he articulates this a lot better than i ever could! http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=176269 after reading his post & getting over my trust issues of random strangers working on my car i contacted Mr.5 & asked him if he could fix my car, he responds with "I'm sorry but I had a really bad experience lately with helping someone else out. I told myself never again but hopefully I'll change my mind in the future." a couple days go by, i contact Mr.5 again & plead my sad case to him, he reluctantly accepts my plea & says he'll do it! "SFValley335"(also having the same problem) & myself take a trip down to huntington beach sunday morning, wait an hour or so for the car's to cool down..we talk cars, mods, meets, etc..after the car's cool down Mr.5 gets to work, the entire time he's fixing the problem he's showing us exactly what he's doing, explaining every step he takes & how to do it ourselves in the future so we don't have to come back should the problem arise again, one of the nicest guys i've met on e90post by far! 20 minutes later my car is done & it sounds perfect! the unbearable ticking is gone!!! moral of the story: i would recommend anybody on this site with this problem to contact Mr.5, it was well worth the little drive down south! |

So i notice theres a custom tool that Mr 5. made. Do you have any "drawings" from him that we can use to make our own for turning/tightening the actuator rod ?

yeah his fix worked for me too... honestly the tool he used was in lieu of a 4mm wrench on the tightening side of the rear actuator rod. its really easy and im surprised why ive seen many members just say "take it to the dealer and have them update you"
anyway gratz on your fix, its really a sigh of relief huh? i was in the same boat man.

nice, glad to hear that you got the problem sorted. mr. 5 has spent a great deal of selfless time writing up his progress on the wastegates.

Thanks for the props guys!
There's another member that's coming over on Friday. Hopefully he'll have as big of a smile as you guys did.
