2AAB & 2A87 Codes

Hi. Guys long time lurker but first time poster here. I have got myself a 2006 e91 m sport with the N52B25 which i love. I had a few vanos solenoid related fault codes and also the car jerked when applying throttle from very low revs when i bought the car. so i replaced the Vanos solenoids and oil/filter and that got rid of the jerk and all the fault codes apart from 2 of them which is 2A87 and 2AAB.
The 2A87 code is far more regular than 2AAB. I also have poor fuel econemy, it averages around 12.5 L/100KM or 18.8 MPG which to be fair is a small amount of time in traffic, but i still feel is less efficient what other seem to be getting here. And just this evening i feel like i lost a noticeable amount of power below around 3-4k rpm.

My question is whether these two codes are often related? as one is for disa valve and one for camshaft correlation.
Many thanks

Those codes are not related. The DISA valves are a common failure and can cause poor fuel economy/ low end power. They have been known to break apart inside the manifold so it's best to sort them out asap.

The other code for the VANOS could be quite a few things. Best to start with the basics first though. When you changed the oil filter, was the plastic cage still present inside the oil filter cap? Did you use a genuine BMW filter? Have you checked the VANOS check valves/filters.

Ok thanks, Yes i used a genuine mann filter and the filter cage was there. I have not checked the check valve/filters my understanding is that these are the same part? I will do that this weekend along with the disa flap once i can source one. Thanks for the info

Ok so i cleaned out the Vanos check valve/filter and it really was in pretty good condition already so unfortunatly made no difference once cleaned. Just waiting on the disa flap to arrive will report back on results. Finger's crossed it does something positive.
