Opinions on Tunes and accelerated wear on o2 Sensors?
I am not an expert on how the combustion engine works, so I wanted to ping the community to get opinions on Tunes and O2 sensor wear.
My E92 has gone through 3 O2 sensors in 20k miles and about 17k miles of those were on a tune. So this latest round, I was throwing another o2 sensor code (p112d). So I cleared the code and it returned a couple days later, so I tried one more time, clearing the code and eventually it came back (50 miles), so I cleared the code a final time and removed the tune all together at the same time I booked an appointment at the dealer, between going back to stock and going to the dealer (1 week and 500 miles) No more P112d Code or erratic idle. So it got me thinking that there is a correlation with tuning and o2 sensor wear. I understand that any tune puts more wear and tear on engine components and I am prepared to "pay to play" on smaller parts like o2 sensors. Because if there is a direct correlation, I would like to research into "cheaper" cars that use the same Bosch sensor, so I can keep them on hand, rather than head to the dealer all the time, then I could just splice the harnesses and swap em out on my own. Thanks ahead of time for your input. |

If this is true then that sucks, but I would never know since I have the O2 simulators.
I guess if I ever go back to stock then I'll figure out if I ever need new o2 sensors or not.

shiv.. could you please pm me the drawbacks to going with 02 sims? does it make a big difference on performance if i replace my stock DP with an after market 3" DP alone (without changing mid-pipe and exhaust)? I already have dual cone intake installed.
