Retrofitted CIC has low quality phone calls

Hi all,

I retrofitted CIC and combox to my 07 E90. I have coded it and have been enjoying Bluetooth Audio streaming for a few months now—definitely a necessary upgrade.

However, while music streams fine (and in high quality) my phone calls have static whenever audio is being received during the call. Akin to the same static you'd hear if a radio was barely picking up the station. I have tried both the stock Bluetooth antenna as well as an Amazon Bluetooth antenna, so I know it's not that. All functions of the combox work perfectly, including Apps. Spotify is crystal clear.

Anyone know what the problem might be? Is this common for CIC phone calls? Surely not.

Microphone maybe?

I mean on their end when the audio comes through it crackles. Is receiving phone audio also connected to the microphone ground?
