Digging into N52/N51 PE design. More clues.
On a French forum a fellow opened a euro 330i muffler and it looks awfully similar to the euro PE muffler photo that's been circulated on this forum.
Euro PE: Euro 330i: He has another photo of the left baffle, and it's curious that it's solid. I haven't seen that before in any of the stock N52/N51 mufflers: It's hard to tell the status of the left baffle in the euro PE photo, but given this euro 330i's similarity to the PE's layout, can we assume the PE also has a solid left baffle? Here's the French forum thread. Worth perusing the photos: https://www.bmw-serie3.com/phpbb3/vi...30300&start=75 |

Another post in this thread because I have a question that's related.
I'm deciding how I want to mod my US 330i muffler to get close-ish to the PE. Here's the US 330i's layout: ![]() What do you think about making the left baffle solid and covering the perforations in the pipes in the left chamber? Last, in the euro PE and euro 330i mufflers I noticed that the center chamber is roughly the same width. The US 330i muffler center chamber would have the same width if one took out that one center baffle that makes the very skinny chamber—though the center chamber would be slightly offset to the right in the overall muffler relative to the PE. Good idea? |
