328i in the 1/4 mile
Hey guys,
A few of use went out to the sacramento raceway today to put down some times. Most were 335i's running v3's with Shiv tuning them himself. I figured what the hell, I always wanted to see what our N/A cars can do. Day was overcast, low 60's with good cool weather. Removed all interior including the front and rear seats and modded with an eisenmann exhaust and eisenhaus SR pipes. My best time: Reaction .230 60ft 2.114 1/4 14.661 @ 94.75mph Played with the RPM band in launching and just aroun 3k is a good area. Feathered the clutch with the ebrake but couldn't get a sub 2sec 60ft times. Oh and DSC off on all the runs. I got my reaction time down to sub .100 later in the day but couldn't hook the launch. A little more practice and I'm hoping to drop a lil more off the 1/4 time. Of course compared to the 335i's we're a bit slower, but wanted to share with you all who are curious about the N/A's capability. |

Thats pretty dam good Drew. Your running faster et's then almost all the auto e90 330i's and trapping around the same speed. You're only a few seconds off of manual 330's. Im sure if you lower your 60' you'll be into the 6mt 330 territory

Thanks Law!
Pak went and we were comparing our runs. He has a e90 330 AT. Consistently launching and pulling away from him which was a bit surprising. I want to go back and try a few things to lower the 60ft. Maybe launching a little lower and feathering the clutch better. |

e92 auto 0-60 6.8 1/4 14.8 e90 6spd 0-60 6.1 1/4 14.6 and weight reduction lighter wheels and small mods. |

Case in point, a shitty driver in a 335 launches at too high of a RPM and is spinning through first and second, while a 328 launches perfectly and takes off. Since the 335 screwed up the launch, his ET might be slower then a 328. Does that mean the 328 is the faster car? No, it just means the 328 is a better driver so he got a better ET. At the same time, i guarantee you even though the 335 screwed up the launch, his trap speed will still be alot higher then the 328 because it has more power overall. So sometimes you have to look at all things considered, not just who crossed the line first. |

but when u compare his best and the other cars best isnt it comparable to say stick is not much faster.
from bmw's site 6mt is 6.1 auto is 6.8 now how exactly is the auto catching up ? the auto is a good baseline so the stick in theory should be 14.8 -.7 = 14.1 unless his shifting skills are not as great as bmw test drivers. |

As much as you'd love for it to be that simple, its not. Just because 0-60 is faster on a the manual by the stated 0.7 seconds, does not mean you can just minus 0.7 off a autos time and expect it to be the manual transmissions time. The 0-60 times have absolutely nothing to do with the ET. Theres so many factors to consider including something important like GEARING.
With your logic, a 997 turbo does 0-60 in 3.7, a stock 335 has been stated to do 0-60 in about 4.8. 997t's can do 11.7...11.8 stock. So lets just give them the benefit of the doubt and say 11.8. So according to you, stock 335's should do the quarter in 12.9. I would love to see a stock 335 put down 12's bone stock, but sad truth is we are barley getting under mid 13's bone stock, maybe 13.3's if we are lucky. |
