Supersprint exhaust disappointment?
Well everyone I finally pulled the trigger on a supersprint exhaust for my 2011 e90 328xi. I've been searching for a cat back exhaust for over a year now and I just could not find any used ones as the new ones are just really expensive. I bought an exhaust with a muffler delete from the junkyard, but that ended up having a lot of drone and some exhaust leaks which made it sound pretty bad. Then I bought a dinan exhaust but it ended up being broken, but for the right person it should be an easy fix? But it just wasn't for me. I got so sick of searching for the right exhaust that I ended up just buying the supersprint. Which consists of the OEM to supersprint connecting pipes with the resonator delete and the muffler. I did a lot of research and I really thought this was the one, I read that it compared to the performance exhaust but just a little louder. And about how it it has this "legendary sound" with amazing flow and no drone and best performance at higher RPM's. Which I guess is true for the most part. It does feel better and there is no drone at all. But that's probably because it sounds almost completely stock. Upon first start up it sounded practically stock, I was pretty disappointed considering I spend $1300 on it. This install was 2 days ago. Does anyone think it'll get louder as I break it in? I was almost worried it would be too loud and at that point I'd just buy the resonator but I see no reason for the resonator at all. Or should I do a secondary cat delete? Will that make it louder? I really just don't want to put any more money into this exhaust if It's not worth it. Plus side it looks really good and it is a supersprint. I'll attach some photos and the sound clip, if I can figure out how to attach it, of the first start up. Let me know what you guys think.

Looks like you still have the secondary cats in place?
Remove those if you want volume. Otherwise, let the muffler break in for sometime and move from there. I had a 128i (overall same exhaust design) with SS section 1 + 2 (non-resonated) and PE muffler. The sound was borderline obnoxious to drive in a corporate garage at work (colleagues could hear me coming into work from their desks) I later swapped out the PE muffler for a 135i muffler and it was just about perfect. |

Hey, sorry you're so disappointed--especially after all that research.
I would give it a few hundred miles to break in and if you're not happy after that, a secondary cat delete will do the trick. I have SS secondary cat delete pipes with the PE Y-pipe and muffler. While it can be obnoxious sometimes, I absolutely love it. These videos show an accurate sound, it's just better in person. |

Update
After having the exhaust on for about 4 days I can say it sounds a lot better. It gradually became louder and deeper through the days and I am just about happy with how it sounds now. Compared to my previous muffler delete the SS is about 30% quieter than the muffler delete with about no drone at all. My only complaints are that there is a small exhaust leak that I need to tend to. Also, there are no burbles or cracks yet. I'm hoping after another few weeks I'll get a little burbling, if not I'll think about the secondary cat delete. If anyone is selling the SS or AFE mid pipes let me know. Thanks for the feedback before

Nice! It’s great to have an exhaust that’s loud but also doesn’t drone. Hopefully the pops come sooner than later.
If you ever got the chance to make a video of it after breaking it in, I’d love to hear what the full SS system sounds like. I can’t find SS Section 1 for sale on ECS or Turner. They only have the catted version. That’s whack. |

After a lot of digging I found the SS midpipes on ECS and turner motorsport for $405. You just cant buy them alone I had to go through a kit and only choose the midpipes. The AFE ones were taken off the website. If anyone here is selling a used pair of either I'd consider buying them for around $250.

Sounds like they were trying to compete with the BMW Performance Exhaust for the N52 with how this sounds. Not horrible. Like others have said, let they system break-in, go through some heat transfer etc, live with it for a while.
Not sure what the emissions/exhaust laws look like in Massachusetts, but I hear it's as bad if not worse than California's. Because of that, I would unfortunately advise you to leave the cats as they are - in lieu of possibly failing smog. I don't know enough about Massachusetts' laws in general though, so please do research yourself on it before making any decisions!

I have a few friends in MA and it sounds like inspections there can be a bit of a nightmare. One friend has just a Magnaflow muffler on her E91, the rest of the exhaust is stock, and it barely passed because of noise.

Well they'll have an easy ride. The PE for the E9X has been discontinued from BMW for some time...

I've been running the same Supersprint system with the secondary car delete on my E91 for several years. I was initially disappointed with the sound and I'm honestly still somewhat disappointed. It is way better than stock but ideally I would prefer slightly more sound. That said, it did get better with use. In the end, the performance improvements out weigh my desire for more sound

I have the supersprint system on my car. I have the headers, exhaust, resonator (centre exhaust), and secondary cats in place. I'm pretty happy with it. A little louder than stock, but no drone at highway speeds.

For sure. I think it's worth it. There is a little odor when the starting from cold but as soon as the main cats warm up it goes away. Also w/o the secondary cats the exhaust burbles more.

I'm running a catback system that was made by SuperSprint in Italy but branded Schmiedmann (Danish BMW specialist) instead, the rear muffler looks a little different otherwise it seems to be similar (x-pipe, dimensions etc). Euro 325i N52B25 with only one sets of cats.

Delete primary cats then get a proper tune. It will make your car a lot louder and the car will definitely burble and pop.

Hey everyone I'm going to try and post a full review soon. I think I've had the exhaust for a month or two I cant remember, but after that time I really like this exhaust now. I went ahead and bought the secondary cat delete midpipes only because I noticed AFE were not selling them anymore and I could only find the supersprint pipes on one site. I'm guessing they might be discontinued now maybe? Either way its hard to find them now so I was worried I might lose the chance to buy them. Ill try and post some sound clips soon if you all are interested.

I have the AFE secondary delete. I was wondering with the SS secondary delete pipes. Are you guys able to retain the mounts and the transmission pipe clamps? Any one have pics to confirm please. If so, I would be willing to trade my AFE pipes for the SS pipes.

I have the resonator deleted on fully stock euro spec 330i exhaust, pretty happy considering it costed around 100 bucks. There's no drone on highway speeds, I think it sounds pretty good for a daily driver.
