Hi All,
I am Sathya. I am based out of Netherlands. I own a 2006 320i ( automatic petrol ) , KM stand at 160000. I have very bad oil consumption problem and there is a lot of smoke from the exhaust behind ,after keep the engine idle for sometime. For eg: in signals. The oil consumption is getting bad slowly, initially i was topping up 1 ltr oil for 1000 to 1500 km, then i had to top off again after 800 km and now after 500 km i had to top off again. i am using 5w30 c3 oil. I had taken it to the local mechanic and he had replaced the oil seal, oil filter, oil separator after this there is no oil leakage in the oil pan inside the engine bay. But this didn't solve the problem with oil burning via the exhaust and it is burning oil more than before. I am hoping if anyone in this forum can help me out to figure out what could the problem, will be a major and roughly how much would it cost ? Thanks in advance ! |

Hey,
Did you find the problem? Sounds like a bad timing chain to me. This problem is common on 4cyl models. If you have a check engine light on your dash you could read out the error memory to determine the problem with dcan cable and Standard Tools Software. Greetings from Germany! xChrisHTx |

I had gone to a mechanic yesterday. They said it is because of bad PCV and had suggested me to change the whole valve cover. They didn't mention the timing chain. Do you think a bad PCV can cause this ? Also i do not see any error warnings in my dashboard. |
