N43 engine slightly shakes
BMW 320i N43 engine slightly shakes randomly, when idling on (P,D gears) rpm drops and fluctuate around 100rpm, I can feel little vibration from front seats, if looking at the engine it shakes randomly, but engine idling sounds good, it just like something stuck and getting normal again in near intake manifold. No check engine or warning, error in dashboard. During acceleration and driving there is no hesitation and vibrations, it is all good.
What could be an issue? Thanks. Here is videos: Little vibrations hard to see from engine look, but vibration sound comes randomly. |

The N43 engine is quite advanced and fuel efficient due to fuel stratified injection. It however needs to run on low-sulphur fuel and have a working NOx system in order to maintain stratified charge. Your symptoms could mean a problem with either the NOx sensor or the NOx catalytic converter in which case the engine switches to "dumb" homogeneous injection which in turn makes it "forget" injector calibration and long-term fuel trims. There is lot on this on bimmerprofs.com. I would highly recommend to get a working INPA installation to read DME error codes.
After 135 000 km my N43 I had similar issues (although not as bad). After installing Noxem (a modified NOx sensor that tells the engine that all is well in the NOx department, always) I am now enjoying a very smooth engine and excellent fuel economy. |
