Alternator kaput?
I started getting my dash cam which is hard wired into the cig lighter start to do the noise it makes when starting and stopping. Then when I switched the engine off I got a bong and the yellow battery low warning symbol.
So the next time I drove the car I plugged the Carly in and brought up the battery charge in the live data. It showed the battery at about 11.5 volts whilst driving along. I stopped and switched it off the restarted it and hey presto, back up to 14 volts it went for the rest of the journey. It’s done this a few times now so do you think it’s the alternator, knackered battery or maybe bad connection somewhere? It’s just a bit weird how random it is whether it’s charging or not. |

You need to get hold of a voltmeter and measure the voltage at the battery terminals with, and without the engine running.
11.5V with engine running is no good but Carly is not measuring battery voltage but a system voltage somewhere in amongst all the electronics you have. Sounds stupid but have you checked the battery connections themselves? I have known them to be loose. |

Ah right, I did wonder where Carly took its reading from. Yes I’ll try and get hold of a voltmeter.
I did give the terminals a wiggle and everything seemed tight. |
