Misfires/smoking after injector, new VC/VCG install
Good morning everyone. Just replaced and coded a set of injectors and replaced the valve cover and gasket. Upon initial start up, it idled fine for about 5 seconds until it began to run rough and smoke from below the passenger side of the engine. I also got these codes that I was able to grab before shutting it down.
![]() I didn't see residual oil on or near the heat shield which is what I was hoping to see. Maybe it's further down on the turbo or downpipe/exhaust that I'm unable to see? The smoke looks to be coming from there. I'm fairly certain the new valve cover didn't have cracks in it either and I used a new OEM gasket. It seemed to have seated properly when I installed it and I visually checked all sides to verify. Is it safe to allow the engine to run for a few minutes to burn off any possible oil residue that I'm not seeing and give the engine a chance to sort itself out? As soon as I saw smoke, I turned the car off. By the time I finished all of this, it was dark, I couldn't see much, and my temper was up there so I'm going to take another look today. It looks like the VCG is leaking again but I want to make sure I'm not missing something else. Thanks for the help! |

Thanks for the reply! I actually figured it out. I accidentally connected the O2 sensors to the wrong connectors which caused the misfire. And you're right about the residual oil. I just let it idle for a half hour and let the oil burn off the top of the downpipes.
