Sirius first year service free?
Just wondering if people are still getting first year of Sirius free? I certainly didn't get that offer from my dealership. Is it something that is thrown in while negotiating the sale price of the car? $143 for a year's service of sat radio is fine, but just wanted to know if it was typical for dealerships to throw it in as part of the deal?

I think you can still receive free first year service if dealer install the option.

Sirius Subscription
doesn't matter if you get it installed at the factory or if you buy it from BMW and install it later (either yourself or at the dealer). When you activate your subscription with Sirius and provide the radio number, they will recognize it as a BMW and will tell you your first year is free. I installed the radio myself (had SAT prep option, bought from Circle BMW) and went to the dealer for reprogramming. I then had to call BWM myself for activation and they confirmed my first year was free.

Okay- sounds like first year free is pretty much standard. I called Sirius last week close to 11pm so I could activate the sat radio. I first asked them if the first year of service was free and the cust. service guy said he had never heard of such a thing. I ended up not activating it at that moment so that I can do further research before paying for the regular yearly fee.
And, yes- I did get Sirius as a factory installed option... Thanks everyone... |

I really think the guy just didn't know what he was talking about. I should probably call during "regular" hours. |

I believe the subscriber must do the activation - don't think the dealer is authorized to do so on the subscriber's behalf. It's a pretty painless operation.
Also, I did not have to prompt the Sirius customer support person that I was activating on a BMW - when I gave them the radio ID, she immediately knew it was a BMW and asked me to confirm. |
