Rear turbo actuator rod adjustment on aftermarket turbo.
Hey everyone, I have a 2009 335xi (AWD) and I had my turbo's replaced 3 years ago under warranty (indie mechanic under 3rd party warranty), and I have waste gate rattle yet again. I would like to give the actuator arm on the rear turbo a turn or two to tighten it up and get rid of the rattle (it isn't very loud ,,so far..), however my turbos were replaced with Mahle brand turbo's and there is no "notch" to turn the actuator arm as there is on the factory turbos (I believe its a 4mm notch on the factory BMW turbos). Does anyone on the forum have an idea of how I could turn the actuator arm? Could I file a notch possibly or would that weaken the arm and cause greater problems down the road? Is it possible to remove the C-clip and pull the arm off the flapper lever pin, turn it and reattach it? It looks like the head of the flapper pin (where the C-clip holds) is larger than the hole on the actuator arm end. Here is a picture of the rear turbo:
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Last edited by randythedrummer; 12-05-2021 at 02:34 PM.. Reason: Picture too large |

Disregard, I pulled the C-clip off the pin holding the arm on and which allowed me to pull the arm away and turn the end piece. I gave it one 2 turns and re-tightened the 10mm nut. Rattle is gone, for now..
