switch lsmc and rsmc for troubleshooting?
Hi - I have an 2006 E90 with adaptive headlights. I have the warning light for same on display. So I got on INPA and have a error code for lsmc not communicating (with frm, I assume). The right headlight moves as commanded by INPA testing so that's good.
The specific error is 9CBD: 9CBD communication with StepperMotorBox left disturbed Error counter: 1 246,920 km no signal or value Test conditions met Error currently present and already saved Failure would not cause a warning lamp to light up Error code: 9C BD 64 01 78 91 As it's a communication error, it seems the smc or the board in headlight the SMC plugs into could be bad? I'd think that since rsmc seems good the cabling and frm is not the problem. Or - is that error code pretty clear it's the lsmc and I shouldn't overthink it? As these are expensive I'd like to be pretty sure before buying something. It looks like same P/N for both so I am assuming I could switch modules, code the old rsmc as the lsmc and if error follows the smc module I'd know it's bad vs something else. As I've never coded anything I'd like to have sanity check before trying. I've got NCS expert up, BimmerGeeks std tools, etc. I can get into NCS expert and read modules, look at trc files, etc. but haven't written something yet - but I've found explanations on how to code a smc and it makes sense/I think I could do it. As mentioned, I can read module such as kombi, see what options could be changed, etc. I tried to read the rsmc which I know to be working OK and rcvd an error in NCS expert. I don't know if this is because the smc doesn't have options to code? or something else? (unfortunately I lost the screen shot of the error so can't say but could go recreate if needed) I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks! |
