Aliexpress Carbon Fiber interior Install and thoughts

I had been going back and forth on the M Performance Dry Carbon interior trim set. I really prefer wet carbon and the m3 parts cost about $1700. I have the M Performance carbon front lip, spoiler and door sills on order and wanted to have the interior match.

I had a gift card that needed to be spent so I rolled the dice with the real carbon overlays from AliExpress

Here's the link https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005...40594c4d0OI7V4

I paid $177+ tax so $189 out the door. Currently the item is on sale for $155-60 plus tax for the next 48 hours

I ordered 12/27 and received the item today 1/12

Items came packaged very well. It's absolutely real carbon fiber. Very thin and super light.

Parts looked great. No flaws that I could see. Installation was super easy. They provided 2 rolls of "3m" tape

Test fits were perfect.

First things first make sure to clean the parts that you will be sticking too as well as the back side of the carbon fiber. I used some alcohol wipes.

Only tool required is a pair of scissors to cut the tape.

I was by myself so I only took one video showing how I installed the item balancing the camera and staying out of the way was super difficult. Starting the tape allows you to hold the carbon trim in place and apply a little pressure you can get the fitment you want. You'll see what I mean in the pictures below.

You just need to take your time with the center pieces because you want to make sure they are lined up good so the cup holder door doesn't rub. Make sure you hold it in place and try a few times.

We'll see how they hold up as time goes on but currently for the price I'm super happy with the results.

Happy modding! Also clearly I'm a horrible camera man I will hopefully update with some better shots tomorrow in the sun light

I'm quite pleasantly suprised how well they look.

I'm exactly like yourself I'm not a fan of the dry carbon look at all.

Im considering the M3 parts but as you say they are alot of money and considering I will eventually be trading in my 240I for a M2 I suspect it's a tough decision the bite the bullet for that price.

Great work fitting it in and hope look forward to seeing your M performance parts.

Me too! Some people got them crazy fast and I'm over here waiting since the end of November for them to come

For $160 I think you'll be happy while you wait for the m2

As far as Ali express goes, this isn't half bad haha! Nice work.

I wasn't sure what to think, but after seeing your install I think the parts look really good!

Looks good man, better than I expected. I ordered a set for mine when I saw them go on sale. I'm sure the genuine OEM trim pieces meant for an M car or something would look a little better but that's a huge price jump.

Thanks for posting!

I'm in for a set as well. I'll miss the alcantara knee pads that came with the OEM set, but for the money I will put it towards something else for the car.

I’ll be going OEM to begin with!

I personally like the gloss black especially better than the optional silver stuff but OEM carbon interior is defiantly what I'll be going for also, but only if a X Drive M2 isn't available in the very near future as I will let the M240 go for one if we are blessed with a X Drive variant.

Knowing my luck tho the rumours will probably come true and it will be RWD only 🙄

But as said above the Ali express bits don't look to bad tbf but if your willing to spend the money defiantly OEM parts for the win.

I also ordered the same kit on January 12. Received Friday, January 28 and installed on Saturday.

I am really happy with the looks for the money.

I just got my carbon overlays from aliexpress and they look fantastic. Question for you two - Do you think they would benefit from thinner tape? They are thin, but I want to ensure they look like they belong and not stuck on at all

The only piece that I felt didn't sit as nicely was the small trim to the left of the instrument cluster, and that might have just been my poor placement.

I was shocked at how flush it sits on the center console and lid for the cup holder.

I think the tape works just fine. Just my $0.02

Using the tape that came with the pieces, placing the tape in appropriate positions, making sure everything is lined up and taking your time to install. You will have no idea that there is anything underneath unless you are looking specifically to see if it's an overlay.

The most important pieces are the center, cup holder door, and small above door trim. Making sure they are lined up perfectly so that don't touch. The carbon pieces and rounded over the edges making the gap between them smaller. I took my time and tested the door many times before committing to those installs. My cup holder door opens and closes with out touching, perfect like oem.

Not really, took a second to figure out how to get it over the leather but was an easy install IMO

I've been looking for that! Most of what I've seen doesn't have the hole for the heated steering wheel. I saw I think automodz has it but I've heard so so things as far as shipping.

I need to do a little more digging.

Yeah i had alot of issues finding it, i got lucky that he posted it up on ebay, good luck finding it! Make sure youre not just checking for the 2 series and double check for adaptive cruise control as well, from what i understand the shape on the left side may be different

Looks great guys, I went ahead and ordered a set of this myself.

Right now I have the piano black parts vinyl wrapped in a semi-gloss carbon fiber and it looks great, but I want the glossy look carbon.

I don't have much experience vinyl wrapping but it seems like most glossy wraps have a lot of textured orange peel. This kit seems like a much better alternative if you want the glossy/wet look.
